It's been too many "Arabian Nights" since I posted last because I am beginning to forget things. Before we launch into Arabian Nights, here are a few more Northwest memories (above): one last Woods (Coffee) stop, a 15 passenger van that was lent to us and my parents drove back for us (sooooo blessed), and leis @ SeaTac from our sweet Coral-Mom-Grmie :) (yes, the "a" is gone from Gramie).
Here is a list of amazing Arabian things we've experienced (we've been here THREE weeks, like three wishes, "count 'em: one, two, three!"):
21: L lost his front, top tooth!
20: @ Mall of the Emirates we watched a special Chinese dragon and monkey dance (it's the year of the monkey--Happy Chinese New Year, ya'll!)
19: visited with our future landlord @ his home, and he gave the kids soda and ice cream Mars bars
18: attended a garage sale and was given some SCREAMING deals to help set up our villa ('fridge, stove/oven, washer, etc.)
17: fun hours on the 8th floor overlooking the Burj al Arab and the Burj Kahlifa at the pool
16: toured Regent International School
15: enjoyed Kidzania from 5-11pm (we intended to go in the morning, but there were about 3 different schools visiting, so we bought evening tickets and stayed at the mall ALL day before we went back--so worth the wait!!)
14: took the wrong way on the metro (we were all sure it was RIGHT upon stepping on)
13: outdoor lunch overlooking the city (same floor as pool)
12: shared a 28" pizza with 2 other families at one of their homes--LOVED being with them!
11: listened to great sermons by Pastor Jim--I learn every time I listen. He is a wonderful teacher and I LOVED how he made an ancient boat come to life 2 Fridays ago.
Rembrant (the boat wasn't like this, but I LOVE studying the looks on the men's faces and trying to figure out which one I relate with most) |
10: watched "Walking on Water" (a tubular surfing video that was given to us)--we all thought it was rad! But, L was like totally speechless, "My heart...it's like...I don't know..."
9: Multi-cultural night at Sky Dubai--amazing national dress, song, dance, and food under one roof! I was in heaven!
8: attended an elegant outdoor dinner in honor of the founders of Fellowship of the Emirates where K and L made fast friends with the other children (and a few adults too!) in attendance
7: welcomed into one family's home for dinner
6: welcomed into another family's home for dinner
5: tried to overcome jet lag (12 hour difference!) by fighting to stay up all day long
4: shopped at Carrefour and whipped around in taxis afterward
3: stared at the ski slope at Mall of the Emirates--saw some live penguins there
2: wowed by the aquarium at the Dubai Mall--there was a Chinese dragon IN the tank!
1: loved Hamley's--F.A.O. Schwartz in New York is cool and famous (and I've been there AND I was a kid), but the people at Hamley's make Hamley's the best!
P.P.S. This took me too long to post. We've now been here 4 weeks and I need to add some updates!
